The Canadian Automatic Merchandising Association (CAMA) Launches Its SMART PICK Program

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 29, 2016 /CNW/ - On September 17th at the Victoria Conference Centre the board of directors of CAMA was excited to announce SMART PICK, an effective and credible program identifying healthier choice products for vending, micro markets and break room solutions.

Program goals include offering a healthier choice for consumers; providing a nudge to encourage the selection of healthier options; and increasing rather than restricting healthier food, snack and beverage choices. The SMART PICK nutrition standards and criteria are simple to adopt and a minimum of 20% of selections must be offered to meet criteria.

The program was developed by dietitian April Saunders, MPH, RD, CDE, working closely with a CAMA committee charged with the development of the program. Review of healthy vending program comparisons, relevant literature related to nutrition, as well as provincial, national and international guidelines for healthy snack nutrition guidelines were all part of the development process.

Available to CAMA members only, this Canadian national program is receiving overwhelming support and being lauded as an extremely valuable tool for the industry. A healthier choice program is no longer an option...it is mandatory for those wanting to maintain or grow their business. SMART PICK provides a branded, turnkey solution developed by CAMA, which has represented, supported and enhanced the Canadian Vending, Office Coffee and Micro Market industries since 1953.
